I found it took me about 3-4 days to start to understand the fundamentals (and I'm still learning). Studio took care of leeway issues for you when adding transitions, Liquid does not Studio has limited tracks and they are bottom to top, Liquid has practically unlimited tracks and they are top to bottom There are some fundamental things that really threw me for a loop until I got my head around them when I made the change. On the other hand, I might consider upgrading the video card a little, since the one I put in was pretty inexpensive in the first place.Īs a Studio survivor myself I can tell you that the learning curve is quite steep. I really don’t want to have to upgrade any more, so if what I have isn’t enough then I will probably just go with Studio. I understand that any (semi?) pro system is going to be much more resource hungry.

Is the Liquid interface pretty simple to learn (remember I am only an amateur, and not likely to ever spend more than a few hours a week editing video)?Ģ. What is the learning curve like for Liquid, going from Studio? Studio is so intuitive and easy to use that I have stuck with it despite stability problems. Before I do so, I have two main questions:ġ. However, I paid enough for this system and prices on software are low enough that I am thinking of upgrading to Liquid. Initially I was just going to buy the newest version of Studio and see how it goes. Two WD 250 Gig SATA HDs (one system, one dedicated to video) I decided to upgrade to the following system:Ĭorsair value select memory – 2 Gb total (2X1024)

While I really like the results, this year I could not bear dealing with the instability problems and incredibly slow slog of working on my laptop.

I have been doing all of this on my Dell laptop (X300 – Pentium M 1.2, 640Mg RAM, onboard video). I basically distill down 20 to 30 hours of home video once a year in to a one or two hour DVD with nice segments, some set to music, all in what I consider a pretty nice package (menus, transitions, etc.). For the past couple of years I have been editing home video using Pinnacle Studio, versions 8, then 9, from my DV tapes.
